Born from a family with a seafaring background, Paul Sperry shared this interest but found it hard to find the perfect shoe that would keep him safe on his sail trips. In 1935, while enjoying a ski trip in Connecticut, Sperry noticed how his dog carelessly walks on the thick snow. It made him look at the paws and see the pattern which he adapted on the outsoles of his shoe. This sparked the first boat shoe ever created.
