Nike Air Mag History

It was in 1989 that most people, especially the fans of the “Back To The Future” movie franchise, first got a glimpse of the Nike Mag. The iconic shoe was introduced in the second instalment of the movie franchise, the “Back To The Future II.” Set mostly in 2015, the movie featured the sneaker with an auto-lacing system and a light-up technology. The main character Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, was the one who wore the sneakers so he can fit in with the modern crowd.

Although the pair featured in the movie was only made possible with a little touch of movie magic, there were still sneaker enthusiasts, as well as pop-culture and tech geeks, who wanted to get themselves a pair. But, unfortunately, they would have to wait for a few decades.

Air Mags is first launched in 2011. The shoes were released through auctions in which the proceeds would go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The 2011 Version of the Nike Mags was almost like Bright you can see in the movie. It lights up and the outer design and style were exactly the same but it was missing one thing; it didn’t have the auto-lacing system yet which was one of its key components.

In the movie, Marty McFly went to travel on the 21st of October, 2015. Many people were expecting the iconic shoe to be released. There was a surprise that awaited the fans. Michael J. Fox made an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” and unveiled the new version of the Nike Air Mags which now features the auto-lacing system. He also took to Twitter to show the letter Tinker Hatfield wrote for him which also confirmed that the Air Mags are real.

The year 2016 is the most anticipated year of Nike Mags fans. The sneaker was finally released in its updated version and now features its self-lacing technology. Only 89 pairs of the Air Mags were released and it was to pay tribute to the year the Back To The Future II premiered.
