Road
Shoes designed for long distance rides. These shoes usually have a smooth and rigid plastic or carbon sole, devoid of grips or lugs, while the uppers are usually vented for breathability.
Mountain
These shoes have more aggressive, lugged outsoles to better aid the rider while off the bike. Crafted from tougher and water resistant materials for rough and muddy trails.
Triathlon
Almost similar to road shoes but are designed to be easily removable, have soft lining for sockless comfort, and good drainage.
Indoor
Often called spinning shoes, this type is a fusion of both road and mountain shoes. They have more rubber than road shoes for walking around but are sleeker than mountain bike shoes.
Winter
Cycling shoes with insulated and/or waterproof features and usually with over-the-ankle coverage. Engineered to protect from the cold, wind or moisture during chilly seasons.
Casual
Display a casually stylish object that is meant for leisurely biking, commuting, and touring. This category includes skate-inspired bike sneakers and BMX footwear suitable for the urban jungle and rocky terrain.
Cyclocross
This cycling activity houses various footwear designs. When the course is wet, shoes used resemble mountain bike shoes, but if it is dry, flat pedals and sneakers are usually used.

Lace

Buckle
Shoes with a device that secures two loose ends. It is usually made from metal or plastic.

Elastic ''bungee'' cords which are secured by a plastic regulator. Allow for quick and easy fastening and loosening.

Shoes with two-bolt cleats. Mostly seen on mountain bike shoes and Cecconello/spin shoes. They allow a bit more flexibility in the sole.
Look Delta
Look Delta is a three-bolt cleat system. It is usually applied to road cycling shoes for maximum power transfer.
