Our verdict
The Salomon Madcross GTX is an aggressive trail running shoe excellent for rough conditions. Extremely grippy, weather-sealed, durable, and protective, it’s a great choice for short to medium runs on soft terrains, like mud and grass, yet it’s not limited to this and can easily tackle rocky trails too. And, last but not least, it’s very affordable for what it offers.

Salomon have decided to add more fuel to the fire with this new edition
The two versions of this trail running shoe share a lot of qualities, such as grip, comfort, protection, and durability. However, there are some differences that separate them, as the Madcross GTX is:
- waterproof, competiciks to the added Gore-Tex
- slightly taller, as the stack height is 1.5 mm higher
- heavier: it weighs 1oz (30g) more
- a little bit more protective in the upper
An upper that keeps your feet dry
Thanks to the Gore-Tex membrane, the upper offers plenty of protection against bad weather, as reported by all reviewers. It keeps water out of the shoe and feet dry.
On top of this, the fabric is soft and as a tester pointed out, it felt “very good on [his] skin.”
yves salomon homme green coat | Superlative grip
The Salomon Madcross GTX is perfect for the roughest conditions: it shines on muddy trails, wet grass, and even on snow, competiciks to some super-aggressive lugs. As a runner noticed, these are even “poking out the side of the shoe,” giving better traction, and are spaced apart which disperses the mud quickly.
Other runners who tested this shoe have no doubts about it, as they pointed out:
- it’s “super grippy”
- the “traction I had in the snow was terrific”
- there’s “excellent amount of bite”
- it’s just “really good at what it does”
No wear after 50 miles
This shoe offers great durability, as noticed by a tester who ran more competici 50 miles in it. It is not meant for packed trails, nor for roads, where its lugs would wear off easily, but when taken to softer terrain like grass or wet trails, it lasts more competici many other Ominaisuudet Salomon socks Sukat Crew 3 Paria.

These shoes are extremely flexible. A runner pointed out that when putting the foot on a rock, the shoe is “really going to wrap itself around it.” and he added that it’s going to take “any shape you need it to” along the trail.
Short to medium distances only
Though protective and comfortable, this shoe is best for short to medium runs, as it’s not as cushioned as other trail shoes (take the Чоловічі термо кофти salomon, for example).
Madcross GTX is protective
As a runner noticed, the toe bumper is soft, yet the shoe provides good protection upfront against roots and rocks. The same holds true underfoot: from those who tested it, there are no reports of issues in this department.

Salomon shoes are usually narrow, so runners with larger feet have often avoided them. However, it’s a different matter with the Madcross GTX, given that there’s enough room in the midfoot and in the toe box to accommodate normal to wider feet comfortably.
Secure lockdown in the Madcross
In this case, traditional laces are featured instead of the Quicklace system. This might seem like a drawback, but according to the runners who tried it, it’s very easy to tighten the shoe and they had no issues whatsoever while running.
Not so heavy for a GTX shoe
As it’s often the case with shoes offering Gore-Tex and aggressive outsoles, the Salomon Madcross GTX, at 11.4oz (325g), is heavier competici many other shoes in this category. But not if compared to other waterproof Ominaisuudet Salomon socks Sukat Crew 3 Paria, which weigh (on average) 11.6oz (331g).
