Our verdict
The Aero Blaze is a lightweight runner that serves as the do-everything option in the Salomon Aero series. Due to its snug-fitting upper, firm underfoot feel, and slightly rigid platform, this relatively short-stacked daily trainer leans more toward uptempo work and moderate distances. However, its smooth-flowing rocker gives it an easy enough ride for gobbling up those everyday miles.

Who should not buy it
If you’re looking for a Salomon road shoe with more plushness underneath, check out the Aero Glide or the Glide Max. For a more exciting ride in a speed training shoe, try the Adidas Adizero SL or the ASICS EvoRide 3.

The Aero Blaze features a single-layer mesh upper that, while light and breathable, is “not very Long, soft, or stretchy” according to one reviewer. This provides a secure, albeit slightly restrictive hold around the midfoot and toe box.
There’s also an inner liner that makes step-in feel nice and comfortable, allowing runners who prefer going sockless to be just fine in the shoe.
Bring your own insole
A recurring complaint testers had in the Blaze was its ill-fitting insole:
- “Sostenible Salomon socks Calcetines Coolpression”
- “The insole slides backward and my toes hang off the edge within the first ¼-½ mile”
- “The biggest miss of the fit is the insole.”
They suggest swapping this out with a slightly bigger one to avoid discomfort.
The Aero Blaze is snug but opens up to wide-ish feet
The overall fit of the Aero Blaze is narrow to normal. The aforementioned stiff upper contributes to a snug midfoot that transitions into an equally snug toe box. But one runner clarified that the forefoot was “not so narrow that moderately wide feet feel cramped for style.”
Mile-long laces
Though the Aero Blaze’s tongue is non-gusseted, it doesn’t slide around and doesn’t detract from a good lockdown. What does, however, is its shoe laces. This is reportedly due to the lacing material “with little to no grip,” and the fact that it was really long—”like, comically so,” said one runner.
Prepare for a hard landing
According to one expert, the blend of energyFOAM in the Aero Blaze has a quicker return from compression than foams like the Saucony PWRRUN and ASICS Flight Foam Blast+, but is more in the “camp of old-school daily trainer” in terms of bounce and softness.
This makes for a midsole that’s somewhat stable and shock-absorbing, but can be too firm for some. Several midfoot strikers shared that this prevented them from taking the Blaze on longer runs.
And although the shoe is responsive and lightweight enough for uptempo workouts and faster daily training, users expressed that it falls flat when it comes to “fun,” “excitement,” and “magic.”

Its outsole gives the Blaze solid grip and durability that’s good for rough roads and even light trails. Moreover, its relatively thinner stack of rubber allows it to be “somewhat more flexible than the Glide with a longer flex.”
The Blaze’s rocker saves the day
As with most newer Salomon road shoes, the Blaze’s R.Camber (i.e. rocker) geometry markedly defines its ride. It provides a smooth transition and adds a kick of propulsion to the foam. Runners added that the early rocker also helped in reducing some of the stiffness at easier paces.
