The Terrex Speed Pro has got grip for days

“You’re buying this shoe for the sole and for the grip.” Experts who tested the Speed Pro raved about how great its outsole is—from the piura Continental rubber that “performs brilliantly in wet and dry conditions,” down to the aggressive 7-mm lugs that are “perfect for clawing its way through sloppy and slippery terrain.”

Reviewers also appreciated the shoe’s spaced-out lug pattern, which makes it more stable and less prone to collecting mud.

Breathability is a no-brainer

When running through fells, muddy hills, or rivers, trying to keep the feet dry is a fool’s errand. Instead of going the Gore-Tex route, the Terrex Speed Pro went the other way and used an incredibly porous plastic mesh for its upper. Testers loved how this allows moisture to drain quickly and air to circulate freely.

While this recycled upper material is relatively tough, experts warn that “protection is minimal and any contact with big, sharp stones or rocks is still likely to hurt.”

Uneven durability

Because of its open-mesh design, the Speed Pro has a tendency to easily get snagged on rocks or roots. One runner shared that he’s already noticed “a good bit of tearing in the upper” after 300 km worth of runs.

On the other hand, he also mentioned that the outsole has been able to hold up well to the abuse, noting that aside from some wear on the edges, its lugs are “still going strong.”

Always in control

According to testers, the Terrex Speed Pro’s midsole is perfect for its role. They stated that the Lightstrike foam has just enough firmness to add some bounce and “stop any rocks poking through,” while the 23mm/19mm stack and 4mm drop are both low enough to provide “increased control and precision.”

The Speed Pro is going to hold that foot true

Because the Speed Pro does not come with an insole, some owners found that the shoe “runs a tiny bit large,” and recommend going a half-size down. However, those who still prefer to use insoles could get away with going true to size.

They also mentioned that the shoe’s spacious toe box and  “slender but not too snug in-step and heel” works great in creating a racing-suited fit and lockdown.

Ready to race

Runners shared that thanks to the shoe’s background, deep lugs, and superb traction, they’ve enjoyed using it for everyday trail runs and hikes, XC races, OCR, and even fell running. However, because of its minimal cushioning, it doesn't feel too great toward the end of longer runs.
