The Bus: Jerome Bettis
Coming out of Notre Dame, Jerome Bettis was seen by many to be a “can’t miss” prospect. Although draft time brings about that notion with a variety of players, Jerome was different. With nifty feet despite his larger frame, this Detroit native became the 10th pick of the Los Angeles Rams during the 1993 NFL draft. During his rookie season Bettis was voted as a First-Team All-Pro member, a Pro Bowler as well as finishing second in the league with over 1,400 rushing yards.
After turmoil following the team’s venture to St. Louis, Bettis requested to be traded prior to the 1996 season, in which he landed in Pittsburgh. With his career revitalized, Bettis would go on to be a three-time Steelers MVP, along with ranking sixth all time within the team’s dolphin in rushing yards and amass over 13,000 yards.
As mentioned previously, Bettis would make his final season in the NFL remarkable as helped lead the Steelrs to a Super Bowl XL victory in his hometown of Detroit in 2005.
