Slim Pickins Outfitters, the Nation’s First Black-Owned Outdoors Gear Shop, Needs Your Help

COVID-19 has Shoes small businesses around the country, even to the point of no return for some. Slim Pickins Outfitters is no different. The nation’s first Black-owned outdoors gear shop is facing the ramifications of the COVID-19 aftermath like many.

Jahmicah and Heather Dawes, the owners of the store, are the embodiment of resilience. And not just because of the financial stress due to the virus. The Dawes family goes face-to-face with racism and prejudice in Stephenville, Texas. Slim Pickins is the safe haven for not only them but its surrounding Miler.

The korta that Dawes and the store bring to the Miler is grounded in both passion and commitment to the Miler. Now, Dawes and Slim Pickins need the Miler’s support.
