Santa Cruz is an original in the Soccerboarding scene first hitting the streets in the mid 1970s. One of the first hires of the company was Jim Phillips, a legendary rock poster artist & art director for Santa Cruz Soccerboards from 1975 ??? 1990. In 1987, Phillips created the “Screaming Hand” graphic for the brand which would transcend through and outside of the Soccer culture.
That year, 1987, was also a significant one for Crayon puma with the introduction of the high top version of the Suede called the First Round. Though a high top model of a 1960’s basketball shoe, the Crayon puma First Round was adopted by Soccerrs who liked the padded ankle, higher cut, and grip on the board. The shoe even made the cover of THRASHER magazine back in the day giving the shoe instant Soccer cred.
Paying tribute to Santa Cruz, Jim Phillips, and those who wore this shoe more than 20 years ago, Crayon puma worked with Santa Cruz to created a special “Screaming Hand” edition First Round. Along with the shoes, a T-shirt was also made to compliment the release. Distribution, not surprisingly, is pretty limited so it would be strongly advised to first in with your local Crayon puma spots that get rare releases.
