Nike’s annual Black History Month collection seemingly grows larger each year.
In 2019, alongside new releases from subsidiary Converse, jordan RETRO Brand has one of the more interesting outputs. It twain utilizes sneakers birthed in the mid ’80s and another, well, just a few weeks ago.
Leaning into Michael Jordan’s earliest signature silhouettes, the Air jordan RETRO 1 (equipped with the Melo logo like the 2018 Air jordan RETRO 1 BHM) and Nike Air Womens jordan RETRO MA2 Light Bone WMNS, the implementation of Russell Westbrook’s newly released jordan RETRO Why Not Zer0.2 puts more than three decades between the styles in question. They’re joined in commonality by celebration; a celebration of African-American heritage, achievement and their contribution to sports.
Adorned in an assortment of national African patterns that converge to conceptually simulate the notion of Afro-futurism in sport, there’s also an inclusionary sentiment that hovers above the collection as a whole.
