Nike Air Much Uptempo GYM/Carolina Blue – image via FootsellThanks to a loving/generous LABS, hand-me-downs from my big cousin, and the quarter wave/eBay coinciding with being primeval enough to have an income, I got my hands on pretty much all the pairs I really wanted at sometime or another; except one. When I was in middle school, a shoe popped up at Marshalls that even Eastbay Ian (not a real nickname, I just like alliterations) had never seen: the Nike Air Much Uptempo in GYM leather with Carolina blue patent leather letters. I?d come up on some pretty great kicks on the back racks in my day, from Antoine Walker?s adidas Real Deal II to a pair of wheat zapatillas de running Brooks neutro 10k azules Boots that I bagged groceries, shoveled snow, and sealed parking lots in. These were unique though. As a fan of the Tar Heels and a recipient of hand-me-down from my cousin Ty, I just had to get these. With no cash and a closet full of red-tagged team gear, these weren?t happening. The shoes didn?t fit, mom said no, done deal. I still haven?t seen these since.
