As ’90s hoops heritage continues to inspire modern-day sneaker design, an underrated gem from 1994 is set to retro for fall/winter 2018.
Widely associated with Dennis Rodman although not technically his signature shoe, Nike’s Air Darwin orbits to help close a basketball-focused 2018.
Worn by Rodman during the 1994-95 NBA season when The Worm suited up for the San Antonio Spurs, the mid-cut style with its famed backward Swoosh returns in a host of colorways.
The foremost is this “Wheat” colorway which, of course, doesn’t work well on every sneaker. The theme aligns perfectly with the Air Darwin, seamlessly shifting the shoe with boot-like aesthetics that ultimately champion 6″ “Wheat” Timbs.
A smooth nubuck suede lays carefully over the upper alongside black accents positioned at the tongue, eyelets, and leather Swoosh. This model, in greater specificity, features traditional Air cushioning different from full-length Visible Air seen on the The Air Max 97 Waves the Italian Flag from 2012.
