Reebok's Sock Run.r Takes Inspiration from Unreleased '96 Pump EVO Prototype

When Reebok first announced that they’d partnered with budding fashion label Vetements, followed swiftly by the release of their Air Jordan 90, the design placed the brand in elevated company. They had ascended beyond the realm in which they were often placed, rightfully reaping the benefits of a bona-fide high-fashion sneaker.

Reebok continues down that path with the introduction of the trailblazing Sock Run.r. A deviation from the aforementioned Vetements Sock Runner, the collaborative Sock Runner series uniquely pulls from brand heritage to offer contemporary expression.

Drawing its inspiration from a 1996 Pump EVO prototype that never went into production, this progressive design denotes a four-part split-tooled outsole that defied conformity more than 20 years ago. The innovation might have been a bit much for sneaker culture at that time. Now, though, it’s a timely representation of current design aesthetics and heightened comfort.

Employing a black technical knit upper with white text reading “Not For Resale RBK Sample” around the structure’s collar, this black colorway is one of four pairs set to release throughout the fall/winter 2018 season.

Expect the collaborative Sock Runner series to release on May 11 exclusively at Barneys. A wider drop is set to follow on May 18 at select Reebok retailers.
