These days collaborations are a dime a dozen, with plenty more bad ones than good ones. And by in large it’s not the shoe’s fault, but the lack of creativity put into re-imagining them. New York-based designer Marc Jacobs certainly doesn’t lack imagination. Thus, his Vans Part Slip-On collaborative collection may or may not be your taste, but you certainly can’t accuse them of being stupid.
Tinkering with psychedelic odes, playful textures, rich embroidery, and even pins and needles, Jacobs lets his imagination run wild all the while positioned somewhere between avant-garde and futuristic. Venturing to dimensions unknown and exploring new ways to approach collaboration, Jacobs’ offering may be boisterous and slightly left, but it’s uniquely, undeniably his.
