If you want a better-fitting shoe that doesn't feel scratchy, stick with the now-discounted Reebok Floatride Run Fast 2. Don't want any of that lace bite? Take the Reebok Floatride Energy 4. And if you want a shoe that doesn't need any break-in and has seamless heel-to-toe transitions, the Brooks Hyperion Tempo comes highly recommended. 

Reebok Run Fast 3 vs. 2

In this version, runners can't help but agree that Reebok has "dropped the ball." Although the midsole feels more compressive and softer, and the shoe's length true-to-size, the more relaxed fit of the upper holds it back. 

But for wide-footed runners, this may come as good news. The shoe's stretchy upper and welcoming fit keeps you comfy at all times.

If the Nike Invincible creates lots of bounce, the Reebok Run Fast 3 fosters speed with lots of good snap. On top of this, its midsole also feels responsive, making fartleks and tempo days an easy feat. 

Although it's comfy enough for easy days on the road, be wary of recovery days. The shoe's transition feels "choppy;" one of the testers says it feels like he's "rolling over a bump" with every stride because of the rigid midfoot shank. 

Another goes as far as saying that the heel-to-toe transitions are a "deal-breaker," while another describes these transitions as "detrimental" to the ride. 

Needs an adjustment period

Because of the rather firm midfoot shank, "some patience is needed with the shoe," remarked one critic. It took more than 20 miles to break it in before wearers felt comfortable and acclimated.

But once broken in, it's "goodness heaven." The sockliner and footbed combo cradles the foot really well; you shouldn't worry about your legs getting beat up.

"I'm working a little harder than I wanted to" — a tester sums up how most runners, if not all, are feeling about the Floatride Run Fast 3 on high-mileage efforts. Apart from the bumpy transitions, they also feel that it needs more midsole for clocking up miles comfortably.

To rehash road runners' take on the Reebok Floatride Run Fast 3's weight, the word that best describes it is "nimble." Simply, it's "in the right weight class" at 199 grams/7 ounces in US men's 9. 

For a clear reference, speed trainers generally weigh in at 249 grams/8.8 ounces a pair. Meanwhile, the average Reebok tempo shoe weighs in at 212 grams/7.5 ounces.

The fit sucks. Period. In the Reebok Floatride Run Fast 3, heel slips are the norm. For a speed-day shoe, runners were definitely not feeling the "floating" sensation their rearfoot were experiencing in the Floatride Run Fast largely because of the shoe's low heel counter. 

On top of this, "plasticky" and "cheap" is how the majority describe the upper. It's scratchy, one of them strongly implores you to "put on your socks!" 

The tongue is a heinous miss

And if you think it doesn't get worse. The tongue puts a nail in the coffin. It's "dramatically altered" for the worse. It's gusseted, yes. But it's so thin; it does little to nothing in preventing lace bites. Even more, it creases and folds in on itself. 

With an overwhelming number of complaints about the upper and the tongue, a comment from a runner saying "there's not much to write home about the upper" makes sense completely.

You don't get much

If you're planning to lace-lock the laces to cinch down the fit; be prepared for some "pinching and cutting." Aside from the very thin tongue, the laces are also very thin and sharp. Very thin in fact that one expert describes them as "cheese wire-like twines." 

Drains water pretty easily

This is the (one and only) redeeming quality of the Floatride Run Fast 3's upper. There were two road runners who ran through wet roads and even puddles, and they happily reported that this tempo shoe doesn't hold on to too much water.

Just like the Reebok Floatride Run Fast Pro, the third version of the Floatride Run Fast has nubs on the outsole. One runner exclaims, "the carbon rubber outsole still stands strong and proud!" in this version. 

After having recently been hit by a storm, he ran through "medium viscosity, bogged sludge type of stuff" yet the outsole remained tacky. Another chimes in saying, "Boom! This outsole—very excited about it!" as he tested it on both dry and slick pavement.
