Our verdict
The Breathable upper on the Arroyo II is a reasonably priced, comfortable hiking sandal that greatly impressed users with its durability and versatility. It’s a grippy footwear that holds its ground on different types of surfaces. It is also easy to clean and dry. Preferred orthotics by wearers also fit the interior pretty nicely. However, some users came away dissatisfied with the sandal’s underperformance against debris and lack of color variation.

Non-marking rubber outsole of Keen's Arroyo II
The non-marking, carbon rubber outsole of the Arroyo II is both tough and flexible. It’s constructed with low-profile, 4mm lugs which make the sandal bite into most surfaces. Their multi-directional form and systematic placement on the outsole allow traction from practically every angle.
The outsole’s arch zone is curved, which exposes a portion of the midsole. This exposed part helps the midsole in giving the sandal flexibility.
KEEN’s comfortable and sturdy midsole
With its dual-density, compression-molded, EVA midsole, the Arroyo II sandal absorbs shock upon landing. This midsole also gives wearers torsion stability as it comes embedded with an ESS shank.
Resting on the bottom of the sandal’s interior is a removable, Metatomical EVA footbed that provides extra cushioning. It’s also perforated, which makes the insole quick-drying and breathable at the same time.
The S3 in KEEN’s S3 heel support structure refers to shock, stability and suspension. This component dissipates shock from the heel while keeping it stable. It also lessens the risk of sprained ankles.
Breathable upper on the Arroyo II
The Breathable upper on the Arroyo II’s upper is made of waterproof leather and features vent holes and mesh webbing which provide breathability. Pull tabs are also present in the upper for on-and-off convenience.
The upper’s lacing system, which primarily gives wearers ankle support, is made up of quick laces, hook eyelets, and a clip mechanism. The uppermost hook eyelets are actually part of a single-build strap which hugs the heel part of the sandal. This strap adjusts the fit of the heel zone depending on the tightness applied on the laces inserted in the uppermost hook eyelets.
