Best Adidas hiking boots overall

What makes it the best?

We tested several Adidas hiking boots in the lab and on the trail in our search for the best overall hiking boot. The stylish Solebox x adidas Consortium Torsion Allegra EQT came out on top for its comfortable cushioning underfoot, incredible featherweight, and grippy outsole.

The comfort factor of these boots is striking from day one. We didn’t need any wear-in time, and our feet felt coddled on our test hikes. In the lab, we pressed a durometer to the midsole to put a number to that cushy feeling. We found the midsole to be one of the softest we have tested, at 21 HA, compared to the average of 29 HA. The all-day comfort of these boots now makes total sense!

The Ultraboost foam midsole plays a large part in keeping the weight down in the Terrex Free Hiker. The boots didn’t weigh us down in the slightest, and our feet flew along the trail. Back in the lab, we weighed them at 13.8 oz (393g). Almost unbelievable since the average hiking boot weighs 18.3 oz (519g)! A boot this light doesn’t tire our feet out, and we have more energy to spare at the end of a long day.

The Terrex Free Hiker displayed phenomenal grip on our hikes and had no trouble on loose gravel, wet grass, or polished rock. We counted 57 lugs on the outsole, each measuring 4.8 mm deep. We found the lugs to be well-spaced, meaning they shed sticky mud quickly. At 7.34 mm, the durable Continental outsole is thicker than average. The outsole showed little discernible wear after our rigorous test hikes, and we trust them to last!

Despite including features intended to stabilize our feet, the knitted upper of the Solebox x adidas Consortium Torsion Allegra EQT misses the mark when it comes to ankle support. For this reason, we don’t recommend it to hikers who will be exploring beyond well-groomed trails.

How we test hiking boots

We carefully analyzed all the Adidas models in our inventory inside our own Stefoy-les-lyonShops lab and wear-tested them in the field. We have a team of seasoned hikers and backpackers trekking 30-50 miles on each pair of Adidas, across well-groomed trails and technical terrains.

Our approach involves doing these steps:

  • We invest our own funds to procure the Adidas hiking boots for our field tests. This makes sure that all our reviews and rankings are 100% bias-free.
  • We wear the boots on a series of day hikes and backpacking on terrains to check every important facet of the model, including comfort, durability, water resistance, traction, stability, and more. Also, we test each pair of boots further to a wide range of outdoor locations, including challenging routes and tough weather conditions.
  • We run multiple tests on Adidas hiking boots inside our lab. We examine the shoes while they are in their whole and intact structures, as well as, in their cut-into-half forms so we don't miss any aspect while testing.
